Vegetation management – Papermill Close, River Wandle
4th February 2025 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm
FreeFollowing restoration work between 2010 and 2015 along this stretch of the upper Wandle, the South East Rivers Trust have been working closely with Sutton council to manage the vegetation and maintain a mix of different plant species.
At this event we will be cutting back bramble and gorse and removing the invasive plant, snowberry. We will also work to remove small sycamore and ash trees to prevent the channel from becoming overshaded if these saplings are left to grow into larger trees.
Some sections of the bank are steep in places and it will be necessary to work from in the river channel, wearing waders.
All tools and equipment, inc. steel toe waders and gloves will be provided.
Meeting point: Papermill Close, on the bridge that crosses the river, Carshalton, SM5 2LE.
